Kansas City Tour 18th & Vine

The first stop on today tours will be at the American Jazz Museum and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum located in the historic 18th & Vine Historic District. The Jazz Museum features many famous jazz greats that played their music in Kansas City during the 1920’s and 1930’s. Such greats as Charlie Parker, Julia Lee and Count Basie are just a few of the musicians and their music shown in the museum. The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is a unique display of the League’s great legends from their introduction after the Civil War through their end in the 1960’s. Located across the street from the Museums is the restored Gem Theatre. It was noted as one of the most modern theatres in the area when it opened in 1912. There are many other interesting sights in this area where once jazz and supper clubs were open 24 hours a day. A driving tour of downtown will afford guests the opportunity to view the new Sprint Center, the newly opened Kauffman Center for Performing Arts and the exciting Kansas City Power and Light District where many of the hottest night spots are located before returning to your hotel. Included will be a stop the Lewis & Clark point overlooking the conversion of the Kaw and Missouri River where guests will view the magnificent bronze statute of the famous explorers and their party. No tour would be complete without a drive through the internationally famous Country Club Plaza where the first shop opened in 1922. Today it encompasses 14 square blocks of upscale shops, boutiques, restaurants, lounges, clubs and theatres all enhanced by beautiful works of art in imported statuary and dozens of the city’s most outstanding fountains that are dispersed throughout the Plaza. A drive by the world-renowned Nelson-Atkins Art Gallery and Museum is also included.

A Taste of Kansas City

The motorcoaches and tour guides/hosts will arrive at hotel 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure. Guests are in for a virtual taste of Kansas City starting with the area’s famous mouthwatering barbecue and a visit to one of the city’s favorite watering holes featuring Kansas City Jazz. Dinner will be at the awarding winning Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue Restaurant in the Freight District (private room and adjoining covered patio) where guests will enjoy a buffet featuring sliced beef brisket, pork spare ribs, bone-in chicken, cole slaw, barbecue beans, cheesy corn bake, oven roasted potatoes, rolls, breads, and non-alcoholic beverages. Following dinner, it’s off to the Blue Room in the 18th & Vine Historic District, the area where Kansas City Jazz was born! Guests will enjoy an evening of Jazz in a relaxed atmosphere. All guests will be returned to the hotel by 11:30 pm and should any guest wish to return earlier, one only needs to ask your host.
